Mayowa & Demilade's 3 in 1 Wedding
(Traditional Wedding, Civil/Blessing Ceremony and Reception)
Mayowa & Demilade’s wedding was a super busy one, it was go go go from early hours of the morning! We have been doing traditional and white wedding on the same day at the same venue since 2018 but never with the civil on the same day and two outfit changes for the traditional wedding. Gives us great joy to say we did it and it was a huge success!
When Mayowa told us their vision about having the traditional Nigerian wedding followed by the civil and then a religious blessing plus the reception and after party on the same day, we thought WOW, that is a lot but as we say here at Roe Weddings, “if you can think it, we can make it happen;” so off we went to begin planning. Generally, we advise that couple only wear one outfit for their African traditional wedding when they are doing it on the same day as their white wedding but when Mayowa explained that it is important to her and Demilade to have both their culture feature in the traditional wedding (with Mayowa being Yoruba and Demilade from Edo State in Nigeria), we knew somehow, we had to make the outfit change during the traditional wedding happen for the couple.
After the prep, makeup and head tie popularly known as gele was completed for the bride, the first part of the Nigerian traditional wedding took place in the bride’s cultural outfit (Yoruba outfit), then the couple changed and returned in the Edo outfit. After the traditional wedding (which had only family and close friends invited), the guests that were present were treated to breakfast with entertainment while the couple changed for the white wedding (the bride’s hair was styled and her makeup changed). The next item on the agenda was the civil ceremony with the registrars and couple’s parents followed by the religious blessing in the chapel at the venue with the rest of the daytime guests arriving for that part. Everything else that normally takes place for a white wedding followed. Gives me great joy to say we served the wedding breakfast at the time scheduled on the timeline and everything ran smoothly and on time!
If you are considering same style for your wedding, it is doable but not the easiest thing, you must be mentality and physically prepared for how busy the day will be and you will need a wedding planner or wedding coordinator at least to pull it off.
